How it works

Step 1

Choose an audio file

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC and other formats your browser can decode. The file opens locally — it is never sent to a server.

Step 2

Set how much pause to keep

0.05 s by default for tight voice edits. Only quiet stretches longer than 100 ms are treated as silence, so short gaps between words survive.

Step 3

Preview and download

Compare the original and new durations, play the cleaned audio, and save it as a WAV. Not perfect? Change a setting and run it again.

What the settings do

Three controls decide what gets cut. The defaults are tuned for voice recordings; adjust them when the result keeps too much or cuts too much.

Keep pause up to (seconds)

Each cut keeps this much pause on both sides, so words don't crash into each other. 0.05 s is a natural-sounding default for voice recordings; set 0 for the tightest possible cut.

Silence threshold (dB)

Audio quieter than this level counts as silence. Raise it toward −35 dB to cut more (background hiss counts too); lower it toward −50 dB to protect quiet speech and breathing.

Minimum silence length (ms)

Pauses shorter than this are never cut. 100 ms only removes clearly long gaps; lower it toward 50 ms to trim every small pause.

Tuning cheat sheet

Cut too much — dropped word endings or clipped quiet speech? Lower the threshold toward −50 dB, raise the minimum silence length, or keep more pause. Pauses still there? Raise the threshold toward −35 dB or lower the minimum silence length. Run it again and compare the durations — the original file is never modified.

Good to know

Your voice stays natural

Only silent stretches are deleted. Playback speed and pitch are never changed, so there is no chipmunk effect and no time-stretch artifacts.

Output is a WAV file

Results are exported as 16-bit WAV at 44.1 kHz — playable everywhere and ready for further editing in any audio editor.

Nothing is uploaded

The audio is decoded and cut with the Web Audio API on your device. There is no upload, no queue, and nothing is stored — closing the tab erases everything.

Automatic threshold fallback

If a whole file is quieter than the threshold, it is adjusted relative to that file's own loudness, so quiet recordings still work.

Made for voice

Podcasts, interviews, lectures, voiceovers and dictation are the sweet spot. Avoid using it on music: removing the quiet parts changes the rhythm.

Audio only

Video files are not supported on this page. If you start from a video, use the video silence remover — it extracts and cleans the audio track for you.

Frequently asked questions

Is this silence remover free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no usage queue. Everything runs on your own device.

Which audio formats can I use?

MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG, FLAC and other formats your browser can decode. The cleaned file is always exported as WAV.

How do I remove silence from an audio file?

Choose the file in the tool above, keep the default settings, and press “Remove silence”. Preview the result, then download the WAV. For most voice recordings the defaults work well.

Will my voice sound different afterwards?

No. The tool deletes quiet stretches only — it does not speed up playback or shift pitch, so your voice sounds exactly the same, just without the dead air.

Can I remove silence from a video?

Not on this page — it processes audio files only. Use the video silence remover: it extracts the audio track from a video and cleans it the same way.

How long can my file be?

There is no server limit, but processing uses your device's memory. Most recordings work fine; multi-hour files may fail on phones or older computers.

Starting from a video instead?

The video silence remover extracts the audio track from MP4, MOV or WebM files and cleans it the same way — the video file itself stays untouched.
