Record audio and remove silence — right in your browser
SilenceRemove has a built-in voice recorder: record a memo, a note or a practice take, and the dead air is cut automatically when you stop. Free, no sign-up — and the recording never leaves your device.
How to record
Press “Record audio instead”
In the audio tool, the record button sits right under the upload area. The first time, your browser asks for microphone permission — allow it once and you are set.
Speak, watch the timer
A red indicator and a timer show that recording is live. Say what you need — voice memos, quick notes, a practice take — and stop whenever you like.
Stop and let it clean itself
Press “Stop recording” and your recording opens in the tool like any uploaded file: waveform preview, one click to cut the silence, then compare and download.
Your recording never leaves the device
The recorder uses your browser's microphone API, and the audio stays in memory on your device while you clean it. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and closing the tab erases everything — which is exactly why this works for voice notes and takes you wouldn't put on someone else's server.
Browser support
Recording uses the standard browser microphone API — it works everywhere modern, but only on secure (https) pages.
| Browser | Raw recording format | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome / Edge | WebM (Opus) | Fully supported |
| Firefox | WebM (Opus) | Fully supported |
| Safari 14.1+ | M4A (AAC) | Fully supported |
| Any browser on http:// pages | — | Blocked (recording needs a secure https connection) |
The cleaned file you download is always a standard WAV, so it plays in every player and editor regardless of which browser recorded it.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my recording stored?
Nowhere. The audio lives in your browser's memory while you work with it — it is never sent to a server, never saved to disk by the site, and it disappears the moment you close the tab. This makes it safe for voice notes you would not want on someone else's server.
The browser blocked my microphone — what now?
Click the lock icon (or the camera/microphone icon) in the address bar, set Microphone to “Allow” for this site, and start the recording again. If the site was blocked permanently, you can reset it in the browser's site settings.
How long can I record?
There is no fixed limit, but the recording is kept in memory, so very long sessions can exhaust your device — the same constraint as processing long uploaded files. For voice memos and notes (minutes to an hour) you are well within range; for multi-hour sessions, record and clean in parts.
Can I play my downloaded recording in other apps?
The tool exports the cleaned audio as WAV, which plays everywhere. The raw recording itself is WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, or M4A in Safari — both play in the same browser that made them, and the WAV export sidesteps any cross-app quirks.
Why is there no pause while recording?
Recording keeps everything — pauses and all — so nothing you say is lost. The silence removal happens after you stop: short gaps between words survive by default, and long dead air is cut automatically.
Try it with your own voice
Open the remove silence from audio tool, press “Record audio instead”, and hear the difference in under a minute. Working from a video instead? Clean its audio track.
